The new school year starts here next week. The State Fair is this week. The Goldenrod flowers are blooming. I saw a few leaves falling from a tree in the woods this morning. The end of summer is near. I thought of these photographs the other day when I was standing in the check-out line at the store behind a family buying school supplies.

The old Hensley Town Hall sits next to Highway 47 in the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve, Champaign County, Illinois. The building contains a one-room schoolhouse exhibit. When I lived in the area, I went for walks in the park. One day, the door to the hall was open and I took my camera inside to look around.

I wonder what it was like to be a student back then. No cell phone, no internet, no ballpoint pens. I like that old heater.

      Hi Shady πŸ™‚
Books and papers were hard to come by as well. I would have to check when public libraries arrived in small towns. Lots of memorizing. I remember when there were no cell phones, internet, and computers only existed in laboratories. πŸ™‚ I like the old heater as well. I wish I had more photographs of the exhibit, but I wasn’t thinking about blog posts back then.
