Be Gentle

Be gentle wind

for the foot steps are many,

Be gentle sun

for the eyes see too much,

Be gentle heart

for the love you find there.

I visited the Arboretum last Saturday morning. It was warm and humid. The sun was behind the clouds. Gray-headed Coneflower, Woodland Sunflower, and Wild Bergamot flowers danced in the breeze on the side of the road. Tiny Catnip flowers peeked out from the grasses. Black-eyed Susan, St. John’s Wort, and Panicled Aster flowers lined the path next to the woods. A Monarch Butterfly flew across the path and rested for a while on the edge of the meadow. I walked through the woods. The plants were dense and it was dark. Tall Bellflower flowers were everywhere. The sun came out from behind the clouds while I was in the woods. A White-tailed Deer fawn was grazing in the grasses under a Hawthorne tree in the meadow. She saw me. She ran onto the path, paused for a moment, and then disappeared into the woods.

I really like the pictures of the Bergamot flowers. I wonder if I can grow those along my lawn border. The fawn looks apprehensive. How close were you when you took the picture?

    • Sarah says:

      Hi Shady 🙂

Thanks for visiting! I like the Bergamot flowers as well. I think they look interesting and joyful. 🙂 I think they would grow well in your yard.

I was probably less than 25 feet from the fawn when I first saw her (or him) and then 50 feet or so when she was on the path. We surprised each other. I know I was surprised when I saw her in the meadow just across the path from me. 🙂

Molly gives a thumbs up to the catnip!

I suppose that should be a ‘paw’ up …

        Hi 🙂
You just reminded me that I plucked a leaf from one of the plants this morning to see if it smelled like mint when I rubbed it between my fingers. The leaf is looking rather wilted after spending a few hours in my windbreaker pocket. It does smell like mint, though, so it looks like it is catnip. I think Molly would have appreciated the bunny rabbits I saw this morning as well. 🙂
