I had been watching the weather all week. I knew last Friday was going to be a beautiful day. I set the alarm for an hour earlier than its usual early hour. I woke up 8 minutes before the alarm was due to sound and left the soft pillow without a second’s regret.
I started the visit to the Arboretum at the Rose bushes on the northern end of the gardens. I made my way south past the Peony flowers to the Tree Lilac. While I was taking photos of the Tree Lilac flowers, I heard a Northern Cardinal. He was perched on a branch in a nearby tree. I crossed the road to the Restored Prairie just north of the Woodland Paths. The song of a Field Sparrow drifted across the prairie. He was sitting on a branch near the top of a very tall tree on the northern edge. When he sang, his head tilted up and his tail feathers moved. Wild Indigo flowers towered over the grasses.
Take care and thanks for reading.
